I met a Trumpeter Swan today!

Trumpeter Swans are rare-ish in my area, and mostly we get Mute Swans, who have red/orange beaks and are apparently more flexible with their necks? Or anyway, they do more twisting around than Trumpeters do.

But, there's a bunch up in Northbridge MA lately, so I went to try and find them.

I found (at least) one of them, hurrah.

Very cool! I've never seen a trumpeter swan, though my partner remembers hearing them migrate when he lived in MD.

Awesome that you got to meet one. Totally worth the journey.. and possible trespass. I may have gone onto private land a time or two just to spot a bird haha.

They visit Washington state pretty regularly. One time my SO and I were driving out near some farmland and spotted a huge group of Trumpeter Swans. I took some pictures of them in flight, and when I was processing some of the pictures I noticed in the tree in the background that a Bald Eagle was bombing my shot: https://365project.org/stephomy/365/2020-12-22
