So, basically... The final boss of the Baldesion Arsenal is Ozma, yeah? (Explanation in details tag)
One of its mechanics is 'Blackhole', which will kick you out of the Baldesion Arsenal entirely — with no way back in — if you are affected by it. There are six "Blackhole Buffers", which are circles on the ground which must all be stood on at the same time to activate the Blackhole Buffer effect for those standing on one. This effect protects you from Blackhole, thus letting you continue the fight.

The arena consists of a ring around Ozma, and 3 equally-spaced rectangular platforms pointing towards Ozma. The ring is not close/wide enough for melees to attack from it, but one side of each platform is close enough. There is a Buffer on each platform, and a Buffer on the ring between each platform.

Now, generally speaking (aka with a 'normal' number of participants), there are two main ways to assign who goes to which Buffer to increase the chance that at least 1 person assigned to each Buffer will be 1. alive, and 2. aware enough to go to their respective Buffer.

Method 1 is that all ranged jobs will go to the [left/right] of the platform while melees/tanks stay on the platform. This works best with balanced parties.

Method 2 is that each party in their entirety is assigned to a buffer. This works best with the max number of parties.

Today, we went with Method 1. This was all well and dandy, until the second-last Blackhole. I was the ONLY one on my assigned Buffer. Which meant I was the ONLY thing in the way of the ENTIRE RAID being kicked out of BA completely! I've done like, 13-18 BA runs at this point, and this is the closest we've ever been to full-raid Blackhole! Obviously not counting the runs where it was planned for only one person on the Buffer, since that's a high-trust run in the first place.

OH I ALMOST FORGOT BUT it was WORSE because being alone made me doubt myself and I ALMOST WALKED BACK TO THE GROUP LMFAOOOOO

So, yeah! My heart was racing like CRAZY, but it also made me feel really cool lmaooo

We have a Goat. It has been steadily mowing the lawn for quite a lot of the day.

It is not, in fact, a living, breathing Goat, snacking happily on grass, vegetables and my T-shirts alike, it is a mechanical beastie which only mows lawns. Beast spent much of last week seizing the moments between showers (few) to instal an outdoor electrical socket for its charging pad, and this morning 'teaching' it the boundaries and exclusions in the lawn. It's fun watching the little chap trundle up and down, and it is very clear, watching it, just how lumpy and bumpy the lawn is.

I await with interest the day Sable ventures out and encounters it while it is mowing. Wonder if it will deter a muntjak?

I think I'll call it William.

*

My BIL is visiting us at the moment, and I am once again struck by the difference between the way Beast thinks and the way I think. He thinks in Physics, as does his brother. I have learned much from this, but I do not think in Physics. It is nice for him to have someone to talk to who understands the world in the same way!

The Angera Declaration for Methane Action

Methane is the second most significant contributor to warming, after carbon dioxide. Methane is responsible for 30% of current warming and its atmospheric concentration continues to rise. Absent rapid and sustained reductions, methane emissions will drive faster warming in the coming decades, intensifying climate risks such as more frequent and severe droughts and heatwaves; more rapid ice-sheet loss; sea-level rise; and risks of triggering destabilizing climate tipping points.

Reducing methane emissions not only reduces climate risks, it also almost immediately improves air quality by decreasing ground-level ozone, which improves public health by reducing respiratory illness and premature mortality while preventing crop losses from ozone exposure thus strengthening food security
.

Because methane is so powerful a warming agent and so short-lived in the atmosphere, its reduction offers the biggest bang-for-buck on climate action. The vast majority of that action relies on government and industry efforts, but there are a few things that individuals can do with real impact...

Today is cloudy, breezy, and mild. It's supposed to rain soon.

I fed the birds. I've seen a few sparrows and house finches.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 6/13/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 6/13/26 -- I pulled weeds to reach the obelisk that was between the apricot tree and birdgift tree, then moved the obelisk near the new picnic table garden.

I also raked up a patch of clinging weeds to minimize their seed dispersal.

EDIT 6/13/26 -- My partner Doug was going to mow, but now it's raining. :/

EDIT 6/13/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

EDIT 6/13/26 -- The brief sprinkle of rain proved to be a cocktease. We got the mower going and my partner is out mowing now. \o/

EDIT 6/13/26 -- Mowing is done. Yay! Much more of the house yard is cleared along with a few other bits. I have access to more places I can work. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much grass has actually sprouted along the path to the east edge of the yard, which I thought hadn't come up at all.

I also planted out the last couple of water jug pots that had flowers in them. I still need to dump out the failed ones though.

Elderberry bushes are blooming way back in the orchard but I can't get to those through the tall field weeds.

EDIT 6/13/26 -- I dumped out the last of the water jugs.

I've seen a male and a female cardinal separately.

EDIT 6/13/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

EDIT 6/13/26 -- I trimmed around the contorta willow bed.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Endangered California Condor Flies into Oregon for the First Time in 122 Years

Last month, a California condor flew into Oregon before returning after several hundred miles to its home in Redwoods National Park, becoming the first condor recorded in the state since 1904.

Taking a closer look, condor conservationists among northern California’s Yurok tribe concluded it was condor B9, an animal that had been born in captivity and released into the wild in 2022 by the Yurok.

The animal flew a grand total of 380 miles and 4 days in a loop, starting high in the redwoods before passing Redding in NoCal and then entering Oregon. It made stops near Medford, Cave Junction, and Brookings before recrossing state lines and returning to the national park
.

That's good progress. \o/

Tennessee Joins States Requiring Data Center Owners to Pay Full Electricity, Infrastructure Costs

The Colossus 2 data center – retrieved from xAI
A new law passed in Tennessee will protect residents from incurring rising electricity costs from nearby data centers’ demands on the grid.

Republican-led bill HB 1847 prohibits utilities companies and municipalities from paying for a data center’s electrical needs, or any of the infrastructure costs involved in expansion
.

Bluntly put, data centers have a bad habit of robbing people by driving up electricity, water, and other bills. They must pay ALL of their own bill, not fob it off on other people. This is driving a large and growing backlash against data centers and the AI they enable.

Just kidding, she wasn't that slow. About a second slower than usual.

Alex thinks it was a combination of lack of hype and the heat. It was quite warm today, from what I noticed on my walk, and he said the fairgrounds where the event was held were very hot and sunny. Bella was the first one to run, so there weren't any other dogs ahead of her for her to start getting excited about. And it sounded like the girl who was helping to release the dogs at the starting line hadn't done so before, and she wasn't really hyping them up or anything. Alex said when the starting flag fell and the girl let go of her collar, Bella just sort of looked around for a second before realizing it was time to run, haha.

I didn't get a picture of the beaft at the event, so here's a picture of her begging for my dinner.

This little loaf would love my Indian food. Please, please can't she eat my Indian food?

No FastCAT events currently scheduled for July, so the next ones will be in August. I think I'll actually get to go to one of those, if I recall. I think there's one that has a Monday date. It'll be nice to do another one, since I so rarely get to go!
