Birdfeeding: Friends of a Feather Flock Together

Today is partly sunny and cool.

I fed the birds. I've seen a large flock of sparrows. A squirrel was running around in the trees.

I put out water for the birds.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Today is cloudy and cool.  It spit snow a bit yesterday but didn't amount to anything.

I fed the birds.  There was a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches perched in the forest garden waiting to be fed.  :D

I put out water for the birds.

I've seen a fox squirrel at the hopper feeder.

Today is cloudy, cool, foggy, and wet.  It rained last night and water is still dripping from the trees today.  Also the thermometer-hygrometer peripheral for our home weather station has died, so we need to see if that's available as a replacement part.  :/

I've seen two squirrels in the trees.  I've seen several cardinals flying around.

Today is sunny and cool, almost warm -- too warm for a jacket even. That's warmer than even the January thaw used to get.

EDIT 12/23/25 -- I filled the trolley twice with twigs from the parking lot brushpile, then dumped them in the firepit in the ritual meadow.

I saw a flock of mourning doves in the trees around the ritual meadow.

I've seen a fox squirrel running through the trees.  I heard a woodpecker but didn't see it.

Today is mostly sunny and chilly.  It rained off and on all yesterday but has stopped now.

Today is sunny and considerably less cold -- ice is melting  in places.

EDIT 12/16/25 -- I potted 4 Granny Smith apple seeds that already split open, and stored 3 more in a baggie of damp sand in the fridge.

One of the Pink apple sprouts that I planted earlier has surfaced and opened tiny leaves.  \o/  (Note that this will not make a Pink apple, since it is a seedling not a clone, but if it lives then it should produce decent dessert apples of some sort.)
