Today is cloudy and cool.

I fed the birds. I've heard a squirrel barking but haven't seen it.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 5/1/26 -- I did a bit of work around patio.

I took some pictures around the yard. Columbine, alliums, poppy, wood hyacinth, and others are blooming.

EDIT 5/1/26 -- I did some brush trimming around the patio.

I've seen a male cardinal and a fox squirrel at the hopper feeder.

I am done for the night.

EDIT 5/1/26 -- We went to a May Day event, and when we got home, my Cold Stream Farm order had arrived.

Today is sunny and cool.

I fed the birds. I've seen a few sparrows and house finches.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 4/30/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 4/30/26 -- My live plants arrived from Select Seeds. :D I've put them outdoors with the others to get some sun.

EDIT 4/30/26 -- I planted yesterday-today-and-tomorrow petunia in the barrel garden. It blooms almost white, turns pink, then nearly purple. I planted prairie coreopsis and pink turtlehead in the wildflower garden.

The first poppy is blooming beside the driveway. :D A pink columbine is blooming in the tulip bed.

EDIT 4/30/26 -- I planted a white echinacea in the white garden.

EDIT 4/30/26 -- I planted two different kinds of wild mint in the wildflower garden.

EDIT 4/30/26 -- I planted a red-leaved penstemon and a coneflower in the wildflower garden.

I am done for the night.

The other day, I saw on my windowsill what might have been a Noisy Miner or Common Myna, which are pretty common in (sub)urban areas where I live — was a little hard to tell because I had my blinds closed at the time, but it was about that size. This is a little unusual; birds don't tend to be at my window, at least not while I'm paying attention. When I woke up this morning (blinds closed again, curtains open because I forgot about them last night), I saw an entire line of those small birds on the windowsill. I thought they might be scared if I opened the blinds, so I left it. By the time I next thought about it, they were gone.

Today is sunny and mild, a beautiful spring day. It rained again last night.

I fed the birds. I heard a bluejay screaming but didn't see it.

Today is cloudy, mild, and damp. It stormed most of yesterday. The patio was underwater several times. There are little logjams of twigs at the edges of where the giant puddles were. The fields have floodles, which is normal for this time of year. Finally.

I fed the birds. I haven't seen any yet.

I put some flats of plants outside to get some sun.

EDIT 4/28/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 4/28/26 -- I planted 3 different stonecrop sedums under the maple tree near the 'Autumn Joy' there.

I've seen a fox squirrel.

EDIT 4/28/26 -- I planted 2 different yarrows in the septic garden.

I saw a brown thrasher foraging in the recently mowed grass.

EDIT 4/28/26 -- I planted a 'Morello' hyssop by the barrel garden. It will offer orange to red trumpet-shaped flowers for hummingbirds.

EDIT 4/28/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 4/28/26 -- I planted 3 different phlox in the wildflower garden.

Poppies and irises have buds. :D

I saw a single clear track in the driveway mud, possibly fox.

EDIT 4/28/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

I am done for the night.

Today is cloudy, cool, and wet.  It's been storming all morning.  We sure need the rain.

I fed the birds.

EDIT 4/27/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

I am done for the night.

Today is sunny and mild.

I fed the birds. I've seen a few sparrows and house finches, plus a fox squirrel.

I put out water for the birds.

I set out some of the potted plants in flats.

4/26/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

4/26/26 -- I planted 4 petunias, 4 blue lobelia, and a 'Dusty Miller' artemesia in the blue chalk horse pot.

4/26/26 -- I planted two pots, each with 2 petunias, 4 white alyssum, and a 'Dusty Miller' artemesia. I put the last 'Dusty Miller' into the previous pot of yellow-and-white flowers.

When making a container garden of different flowers, it helps to create some unity by repeating elements. I do that with the fillers: 'Dusty Miller' artemesia, alyssum, and lobelia.

4/26/26 -- I potted up the three ice plants for the new picnic table garden. This concludes the batch of plants from DeBurh's.

4/26/26 -- We picked up dead weed stems from the edge of the south lot. We filled the wagon and only cleared about 3-4 feet by maybe 20 feet. :/

4/26/26 -- I got the groundcloth laid out; it's still flyaway and fragile, but at least on a calmer day I got it pinned down good enough for government work. I hauled out the solid-top pallet and sprayed the top side with waterseal.

4/26/26 -- I sprayed the underside of the solid-top pallet.

We rolled up the hose.

My partner Doug is going out to mow the little bit we got cleared.

4/26/26 -- I put the solid-top pallet back in the shed.

4/26/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

Friday and Saturday

Today we have a mix and clouds and sun, with a few Blue Jays around.

Yesterday was sunny and mild but cooled off in the afternoon.
We visited Blithewold Mansion and Gardens in Bristol, RI https://www.blithewold.org/ to see their spring gardens with many type of daffodils. They also have these large bird statues on their grounds for the past couple of seasons. I also planted a few yellow marigolds near my vegetable and herb garden.

Today is sunny and mild.  It rained on and off yesterday.

We went out early to catch the native plant sale at Douglas-Hart Nature Center.  Then we had more errands to run.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a few sparrows and house finches.

I put out water for the birds.

I set out some flats of pots and watered them.

EDIT 4/25/26 -- I planted four Burpless Cucumbers in pots, two on the old picnic table garden and two on the new picnic table garden.

EDIT 4/25/26 -- I planted four chocolate cherry tomatoes in pots, two on the old picnic table garden and two on the new picnic table garden.

I planted a garden sage and a variegated sage in a trough pot, and a cilantro in another trough pot, at the new picnic table garden.  I still need to do more with the troughs because their soil level is low.

EDIT 4/25/26 -- I topped up the trough pots, sowed 'Slow Bolting' cilantro around the potted cilantro, and watered the recently planted things.

EDIT 4/25/26 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 4/25/26 -- I planted the catnip.  This completes the flat of small square pots. \o/

EDIT 4/25/26 -- I did more work around the patio.

I've seen a male cardinal and a fox squirrel at the hopper feeder.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Three Weeks for Dreamwidth runs April 25-May 15. During this time, people post content only visible on Dreamwidth (although it can be reposted elsewhere after the event ends). There's usually a flurry of activity as bloggers share anchor posts, new fiction, icons, banners, questionnaires, friending fests, memes, and other goodies. Community hosts often hold special activities in their communities too. Watch your reading page for more festivities.

Are you posting about birds? You can crosspost those entries here. Are you doing anything for Three Weeks in your blog or other community? Post a comment about that to attract more readers. Follow the Threeweeks feed. See my 2024 Questionnaire and a list of other thematic questionnaires.

In 2023, I posted about birds in honor of [community profile] birdfeeding. If you are new to this community, we have an Introduction tag and questionnaire that you can use to tell us about yourself.

I also made a blogging questionnaire in 2022, which people are welcome to use.

Today is sunny, steamy, and hot. :P It's 86°F with a heat index of 92°F. I still have a bunch of things to plant, but I doubt I'll get much yardwork done in this weather. A beautiful day to stay indoors and write! Or possibly work on the in-progress terrarium with the fern. Tomorrow is supposed to be a little cooler.

I fed the birds. I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches, two brown thrashers, and a male cardinal.

I put out water for the birds.

I put out the 3 partial flats of pots and watered them, along with the strawberry towers.

EDIT 5/15/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

It's currently 87°F with a heat index of 92°F.

I've seen several mourning doves, a female goldfinch, and a young fox squirrel.

EDIT 5/15/25 -- I've seen a brown-headed cowbird.

The pink bergamot in the strip garden is blooming! :D I confess that I picked off the trumpets from an entire flower head and ate them all.

EDIT 5/15/25 -- I assembled the cookie jar terrarium. \o/

I've seen a female rose-breasted grosbeak. :D No male, but one visited earlier in spring.

EDIT 5/15/25 -- I rearranged pots on top of the new picnic table.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Today is cloudy and warm.

I fed the birds.  I've seen several sparrows and house finches, a catbird, and a blackbird.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I put out the flats of pots and watered them.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I planted the 'Poquito' orange anise hyssop at the base of the barrel garden.  I figure the hummingbirds will like it, since I couldn't find a jumbo salvia this year.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I planted the iris 'Aureovariegata yellow' at the base of the barrel garden.  Its leaves are creamy green with wide yellow streaks.  :D

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I moved the 4 big smooth pots from the top of the new picnic table to the ground along the south bench.  This makes room for the remaining 3 fluted pots to be added later, and gives me 3 tiers of planting space on the side.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I filled a big fluted pot with half compost and half potting soil.  I planted a 'Chocolate Sprinkles' tomato in it.  These were a big favorite last year, so I bought 2 of them.  Regrettably I'm out of marigolds.  I may just use seeds in that one.  I put the pot on top of the new picnic table.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I potted up the second 'Chocolate Sprinkles' tomato the same way.

I've seen a male cardinal.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I potted up a 'Carmen' Italian sweet pepper in the last of the big fluted pots and put it on the picnic table.

I've seen a brown-headed cowbird.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I took several 'Ambrosia' melon plants that came in the same small pot, and put them in a much bigger pot which I moved to the new picnic table.  The fruit looks like a cantaloupe but is actually an exotic melon.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I took some pictures around the yard.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I sowed seeds for goldenberry and 'Aunt Molly's' ground cherry in large pots on the patio.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I planted coreopsis 'Permathread Red Satin' and yarrow 'Firefly Red Pop' below the barrel garden.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I planted a 'Husker Red' penstemon in the wildflower garden.  A spike of white flowers is blooming there, something I don't recognize, but very pretty.

The first purple-and-ivory iris is blooming in the wagonwheel garden.  The first two dark purple irises are blooming in the tulip bed.

I've seen two brown thrashers, a lady cardinal, the black-sided skunk, and a fox squirrel.

EDIT 5/14/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

I watered the newly planted things.

I brought in the flats of pots, now down to 3 partial flats.

As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

Today is cloudy and wet.  It's been raining this morning.

I haven't fed the birds yet but I've seen a few sparrows and house finches.

EDIT 5/12/25 -- I fed the birds.

EDIT 5/12/25 -- We went out shopping.  I picked up 2 partial flats of plants, 4 concrete pavers, 4 short tomato cages, and a package of plastic stakes to use as cheap hose guides.  Sadly I did not find any 'Gypsy' peppers, but I found a different Italian sweet pepper to try, and 2 of the excellent 'Chocolate Sprinkles' cherry tomatoes from last year.

When we pulled into the driveway at home, a male indigo bunting flew across the driveway, and there was another small brown bird that may have been a female.  :D

I put out the flats of plants.

EDIT 5/12/25 -- I went to go outside for some yardwork, but it is raining again.  :/  Ah well, at least it didn't rain while we were out and about.

EDIT 5/12/25 -- It stopped raining enough for me to do a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 5/12/25 -- I sowed cypress vine seeds around the support wire of the telephone pole.

As everything is still soaked, I am done for the night.

Today is partly cloudy and mild.  It's supposed to rain, don't know if it actually will.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a few sparrows and house finches, two mourning doves, and two blackbirds.

I put out water for the birds.

I moved the flats of pots outside and watered them.  There are currently 4 but not all of them are full.

EDIT 5/8/25 -- I sowed seeds in the telephone pole garden including Ageratum 'Red Bouquet', Balsam, Celosia 'Wooster Cockscomb', Four 'o Clock 'Marbles Mix', Hollyhock 'Antwerp', Fig Hollyhock 'Happy Lights', Sunflower 'Autumn Beauty', Sunflower 'Hopi Landrace', Sunflower 'Pinetree Mix', Zinnia 'Mega Diversity Mix', and Zinnia 'Persian Carpet'.

I brought in the flats because it looks like it might rain.

EDIT 5/8/25 -- I planted a 'Lemon Boy' tomato with 4 'Hot Pak Gold' marigolds in a large pot on the new picnic table.

Thunder and a sprinkle of rain, but that's all so far.

EDIT 5/8/25 -- I planted a pot of red and white petunias with 'Dusty Miller' artemesia and sweet alyssum; and a pot of mixed impatiens with sweet alyssum.  I had just started the hot pink torenia when it began raining again, so I'll have to do that one later.

EDIT 5/8/25 -- I planted one pot with 2 hot pink torenia, 1 pink-and-white striped Wave petunia, and 2 sweet alyssum.  I planted another pot with 2 hot pink torenia, 4 sweet alyssum, and 1 'Dusty Miller' artemesia.

EDIT 5/8/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

I've seen two male goldfinches, a brown thrasher, and a fox squirrel.

EDIT 5/8/25 -- I sowed dill and parsley seeds in the telephone pole garden.

I saw a skunk, with normal markings so it wasn't Arrow.

I am done for the night.
