Birdfeeding

Today is partly cloudy, steamy, and warm.
I fed the birds. I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches.
I put out water for the birds. Honeybees are smart for something so tiny -- they had drained the metal birdbath, so there were none when I first went out, but as soon as I put out the water, several appeared. They have realized that I fill the dish. Impressive.
I spotted one of my favorite beetles, a green june beetle. They eat a lot of different things, which can make them a nuisance, but they are such a gorgeous blend of metallic greens and golds.
EDIT 7/3/23 -- I watered the patio plants and picnic table plants.
I've seen a grackle in the forest garden.
EDIT 7/3/23 -- I watered the notch in the prairie garden and the tower strip. There might be sunflowers beginning sprout!
EDIT 7/3/23 -- I watered the septic garden and the seedlings in the savanna. The first cherry tomato ripened in the septic garden! \o/
I spotted a pile of deer scat near the pawpaw seedling. I love knowing how to track animals because it allows me to enjoy nature in the fourth dimension -- not just the present moment, but understanding who has moved through the area recently and what they've done.
EDIT 7/3/23 -- I watered the monarch strip and the bluestem strip in the savanna.
The field corn is tasseling. It's been doing that for a week or so, based on what I've seen out driving. This is the first day I've been able to smell it on the breeze: a thick, rich, buttery-sweet scent.
EDIT 7/3/23 -- I watered the telephone pole garden and the grass patch.
EDIT 7/3/23 -- I walked around the yard a bit. Pretty sunset tonight.
Fireflies are coming out.
As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
