Birdfeeding
Sep. 9th, 2023 04:36 pmToday is cloudy and mild.
I fed the birds. I've seen a few house finches.
I put out water for the birds and watered a few plants.
I picked 3 red cherry tomatoes and 3 yellow pear tomatoes.
EDIT 9/9/23 -- I gathered seeds to plant around the yard. I put some wild bergamot heads in the septic garden. They taste nasty, but produce pretty lavender flowers that the wildlife likes, so I don't mind spreading them around if they're willing to go. I also flushed a hummingbird out of the septic garden. It was down lower than the cypress vine, go figure -- zinnias and sedum aren't what I'd call prime hummer food, but I'm not the one migrating, so they can eat whatever they want. *ponder* Then again, maybe it was after protein, they'll eat tiny insects and those plants are swarming. I saw a gorgeous green bee on the sedum, possibly one of these. There are a few honeybees and bumbles but mostly what I'm seeing are small native bees and larger parasitic wasps.
EDIT 9/9/23 -- I gathered seeds to plant around the yard.
EDIT 9/9/23 -- I watered the septic garden and the patio plants.
EDIT 9/9/23 -- I watered the telephone pole garden, wildflower garden, notch in the prairie garden, tulip bed and its grass patch.
Hazelnuts are ripening. They're not all that great -- small nuts with thick, hard shells -- but I usually pick a few in case I want them for ritual purposes. That's if I can get any. Wildlife loves them and often reaches them first.
Cicadas and crickets are singing.
As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
