Today is cloudy and steamy. It drizzled a bit earlier. Yesterday violent storms swept the area, knocking out power all day and night. We got a lot of rain, though, which is most welcome.
I fed the birds. I've seen several cardinals squabbling over the hopper feeder and a small flock of house finches.
EDIT 6/30/23 -- I hauled two fallen limbs from the forest yard to the brushpile in the ritual meadow. There's not much damage though, about typical for a rough storm, not like the wreckage we've seen elsewhere.
I caught a glimpse of a bird that may be an eastern towhee. Usually I see those only in spring.
EDIT 6/30/23 -- I found a couple more smallish branches that I could haul from the street edge to the ritual meadow. But there are two big branches down in the savanna that are too heavy for me to haul, and one broken branch on a walnut in the south lot that needs to be cut down.
EDIT 6/30/23 -- The two of us cut down the broken branch in the south lot, at least as much as we could reach, so that is no longer blocking the entrance gap there. The pile of pieces on the ground is all stuff small enough for me to drag off to the ritual meadow later. \o/
EDIT 6/30/23 -- I started hauling cut branches to the ritual meadow.
Corn is beginning to tassel, a buttery golden smell.
EDIT 6/30/23 -- I hauled more cut branches.
EDIT 6/03/23 -- I hauled the last of the cut branches from the walnut in the south lot. \o/
EDIT 6/30/23 -- I managed to break up one of the branches in the savanna, but only one piece was small enough to haul away.
I think I saw a blue heron flying high overhead.
As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
