Today is cloudy, muggy, and warm. It drizzled a bit last night.
I haven't fed the birds yet, but I've seen a male cardinal and a male house finch.
I made a new planter from an old chair frame and a deck rail planting box, and took pictures of the process. There I potted up a pink-and-yellow lantana, two pink-and-white snapdragons, and four white alyssum. Along the back I planted cypress vine seeds where they'll be able to climb up the chair back.
EDIT 5/15/23 -- I planted Russian sage and orange butterfly weed in the septic garden.
I've seen a brown thrasher.
EDIT 5/15/23 -- I potted up three ice plants in individual pots.
EDIT 5/15/23 -- I potted up multiple pots of petunias in assorted colors including fuchsia, dark purple, and white. I also potted up the lemongrass.
As it is getting dark, I am done for the night.

I potted up curry, sweet marjoram, rosemary, and dill in the beige trough.
EDIT 5/15/23 -- In the wildflower garden I planted a Swamp Milkweed along with a Hardy Aster Kickin' Lilac Blue and a Hardy Aster Kickin' Pink Chiffon.
I saw a red bird with black wings in the forest yard near the driveway, which I believe to be a male scarlet tanager. :D 3q3q3q!!! The description says they love berries. Mine aren't ripe yet, but I do have mulberries, blackberries, black raspberries, wild strawberries, and one volunteer elderberry tree. For all the spring got off to a very dry start, it's better now, and turning into a fantastic time for birdwatching.

Date: 2023-05-15 11:06 pm (UTC)These I've seen before on rare occasions. The all-red summer tanager was new though, as was the hooded warbler. I'm so stoked about seeing new birds, and more colorful birds. \o/ It seems my hard work on habitat improvement is paying off. It may look like a jungle to human eyes, but the wildlife is loving it.
