Today is cloudy, muggy, and warm.  It rained vigorously yesterday.  :D  More is predicted for tonight.

I haven't fed the birds yet, but I've seen a mourning dove and a male cardinal.

I planted 4 blue lobelia at the front of the rain garden, which completes that project.

EDIT 5/14/23 -- I've seen a brown thrasher, a blue jay, and a female cardinal.

I planted a pot of dill in the wildflower garden.  This isn't the usual arrangement of one dill plant in a pot, there are a dozen or more: a perfect arrangement for caterpillar dill, which is why I bought this one.  I also planted moonflower seeds around the support wire for the telephone pole.

EDIT 5/14/23 -- I potted up one Red Rosie Basil (which is actually dark purple) and some basil grex seeds.

EDIT 5/14/23 -- I potted up a pink, a yellow, and a white portulaca.

I've seen several male house finches fighting over the hopper feeder.

EDIT 5/14/23 -- I potted up a flat parsley, a curled parsley, a cilantro, and planted some cilantro seeds in the mauve trough.

Why I am a packrat:

I need something to keep critters off the bok choy seedlings.  *look around* *spot old license plate frames* These will do nicely.  Now I need something to run through the holes and pin them in place.

Why I love permaculture:

*look around* *spot volunteer bushes*  *ruthlessly rip off several stems to make pins*  That will do nicely.  \o/

Anyone who says permaculture is "all about fruit" doesn't know what they're doing.  Sure I love fruit.  But I also love being able to forage my yard for supplies without having to buy things.  I do this all the time.

I'm hearing rumbles of thunder and the sky is already twilight-dark, so I may get rained out again, but that's fine.

EDIT 5/14/23 -- I potted up a purple face pansy, a lavender pansy, and two blue lobelia.

It's starting to drizzle again.

EDIT 5/14/23 -- When I went out after supper, it wasn't raining.

I scattered more landrace marigold seeds in the prairie garden.

I potted up a purple-and-white superbells, a solid purple petunia, and a white wave petunia.  Then I potted up a purple face pansy, a dark purple pansy, and a white alyssum.

It's starting to drizzle, again, and also almost dark from the cloud cover.  So I am done for the night.
