Birdfeeding
May. 10th, 2023 12:30 pmToday is sunny and warm.
I haven't fed the birds yet, but I've seen two male indigo buntings, a pair of goldfinches, a female cardinal, a gray catbird, and a white-crowned sparrow. :D The indigo buntings might well stick around; I've had them stay for the summer before.
EDIT 5/10/23 -- I planted the barrel garden with flowers of pink, red, orange, and yellow.
In the middle (taller plants): Nemesia Hybrid Sunsation Lemon, Cherry Sunrise Lantana, and Pineapple Mint.
Around the edge (shorter or trailing plants): 4 yellow marigolds, 4 assorted verbena (probably pink, red, or dark purple), Superbells Tropical Sunrise, and Easy Wave Petunia red.
Near the hanger and in the two pots: white moonflower.
There aren't as many morning glory sprouts as usual, though. I should buy them new sex partners next year.
I added a top layer of Evergreen potting soil, which leaves a very nice woodchippy surface, and then I watered everything.
In the picnic garden, some of the recently planted seeds like marigold and bok choy are already sprouting. \o/
EDIT 5/10/23 -- I planted a Hosta 'Ann Kulpa' in the forest garden. It has big green leaves with a bright yellow streak down the middle. I planted a Shasta daisy in the white garden at the end of the driveway. I put humus-and-manure around both of them, then watered them in.
EDIT 5/10/23 -- My partner Doug mowed the ritual meadow, prairie garden paths, and savanna.
We burned off the firepit. It's mostly down to ash now. \o/
As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
