Birdfeeding
May. 6th, 2023 03:18 pmToday is cloudy and mild. It's supposed to rain later, which we desperately need.
I fed the birds. I've seen a male house finch.
I planted the last of the gladioli in the garden by the telephone pole.
My partner Doug is out mowing before the rain.
EDIT 5/6/23 -- It was spitting rain when we went out to work on the old mulch pile. We picked up the piles of sticks from the back of it, so it's mostly clear now. By the time we finished the second haul, the rain was up to a drizzle, temperature dropping, and the wind was howling.
We saw a rabbit in the ritual meadow.
EDIT 5/6/23 -- The rain stopped and wind died down. There wasn't even enough water to wet the ground, only the leaves. :/
I finished spreading compost in the septic garden. I planted more sunflowers and zinnias there.
I planted American Meadows Monarch Butterfly Wildflower Seed Mix in the east-west path and the north notch of the prairie garden. I planted OPN Seed 20th Anniversary Native Seed Mix in the north-south path.
I saw a male cardinal in the forest garden.
EDIT 5/6/23 -- I planted sunflowers in the prairie garden on the compost.
EDIT 5/6/23 -- The Evergreen Potting Soil has quite a nice, fluffy texture very similar to the American Countryside compost. I planted pots of landrace marigolds, Marigold OG, Basil Grex, Leeks, and Bok Choy. I'm really curious whether the landrace and open-pollinated stuff I bought will grow better than the cultivar types.
As it is now dark, I am done for the night.

Date: 2023-05-07 04:47 am (UTC)We're doing more mixed garden experiments this season with the raised beds and containers and throwing some pollinator seed mixes in with the other plants. But didn't get packets that were specifically all native plants. Next year.
