Today is cloudy, windy, cold, and wet. It rained a little last night. It's been spitting off and on today.
I fed the birds. I've seen a pair of house finches and a mourning dove. Can't say I blame the rest for hiding though.
Downside: It's no kind of day for yardening.
Upside: It's a beautiful day for writing, which I desperately need to do.
EDIT 4/30/23 -- I saw a male cardinal in the forest garden.

Date: 2023-04-30 09:20 pm (UTC)We are having a similar day, much more like March than April
I'm starting to see yellow-rumped warblers and ruby-crowned kinglets; only singletons, though, not large flocks. I hope the migration picks up speed soon. It's supposed to warm up later in the week.

Thoughts
Date: 2023-04-30 09:29 pm (UTC)I've had several colorful transients. The blue jays, however, have been around weeks so maybe they are thinking about staying for the summer. I've seen four at once, more often two or three, so there are probably six or so in the yard.

Date: 2023-05-01 04:48 am (UTC)They are fun to watch and listen to. They like to scream at me when I go outside. It's interesting to watch them cracking open the big sunflower seeds. They have a good hammering action. So do the brown thrashers.
I have heard that jays are smart enough to figure out simple "puzzle" feeders, but I don't have a puzzle feeder.

We had a blue jay ounce that was working on opening up the suet feeder, but a gray squirrel just ran off with the entire thing.
