jadelennox: A tiny duckling climbing a vertical curb many times its height (Duckling)

Today I was walking down by the brook and there was a little trash island made of sticks and detritus and coke bottles and a half deflated soccer ball, and a swan was settled there in a glorious stick nest circlet raised from this little driftwood/garbage raft. It was very serene and sleepy, totally ignoring the starlings and blue jays.

That's so great. It's not trash once a swan has selected it, right? P.

Wow!

That is so awesome. I can't help thinking of dystopian roleplaying games, where "trash swan" would make an awesome species. Beautiful birds, hideous -- perhaps even dangerous -- babies, immune to postapocalyptic hazards, and they require trash for successful reproduction.

... I actually have a postapocalyptic setting that I could put those in.

I have seen many interesting photographs of the things that hermit crabs select to live in. They're quite fussy. And they're incredible upcyclers.
