Birdfeeding
Mar. 25th, 2025 02:35 pmToday is cloudy and cool.
I fed the birds. I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches, two mourning doves, and a tufted titmouse.
I put out water for the birds.
A few more seeds are starting to sprout in the pot trays. :D
EDIT 3/25/25 -- I planted the remaining hardneck garlic from the Charleston Food Forest underneath two saplings in the savanna.
EDIT 3/25/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.
I think the bleeding hearts that I planted last year are sprouting in the rain garden and the log garden. :D
EDIT 3/25/25 -- I planted the Fall Gold yellow raspberry along the south edge of the ritual meadow.
EDIT 3/25/25 -- I planted the Brandywine purple raspberry along the south edge of the ritual meadow.
I've seen a fox squirrel leaping through the trees overhead. I heard red-winged blackbirds singing but haven't seen them.
EDIT 3/25/25 -- I planted a bag of 25 Dutch irises, 20 of them around the wagonwheel garden and the other 5 around a hydrangea bush in the house yard.
EDIT 3/25/25 -- I watered the newly planted things.
I've seen several grackles.
The first blue grape hyacinths are blooming around the septic garden. These are deep purple, almost black.
As it is almost suppertime, I am done for the night.

Date: 2025-03-27 11:17 pm (UTC)A few times I've seen a gray squirrel, but we've never had a population establish itself here. There's just so much open space, it's rare for them to cross it. Fox squirrels are savanna dwellers who are fairly comfortable on the ground. Gray squirrels are forest dwellers who dislike touching down.
