Birdfeeding

Today is sunny and less cold.

I fed the birds. I've seen a large flock of starlings, a flock of mourning doves, and several sparrows. Some of the starlings were out foraging in the grass.

I put out water for the birds.

In the cistern garden, the sorrel has stubbornly put out fresh green leaves. :D

EDIT 1/26/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

I put out more water for the birds. They nearly drained the bowl on the ground.

I've seen a large flock of sparrows, a male cardinal, and a downy woodpecker drilling a tree high overhead.

I am done for the night.

I saw many Starlings and Common Grackles today too.

Thoughts

We get grackles here too, but I rarely see them in winter; they're summer birds for us. They usually appear around the same time as the red-winged blackbirds return.
