Birdfeeding
Aug. 29th, 2024 02:19 pmToday is sunny and sweltering.
I haven't fed the birds yet, but I've seen some exciting activity. A flock of house finches and two brown thrashers have been in the forest garden. A male American goldfinch in his bright summer coat visited both the hopper feeder and the thistle sock. A male Baltimore oriole drank from the metal birdbath. :D 3q3q3q!!!
EDIT 8/29/24 -- I fed the birds. I put out orange halves for the oriole and refilled the thistle sock for the goldfinch. I've seen more house finches, a mourning dove, and a gray catbird in the forest garden.
I put out water for the birds and watered a few plants.
EDIT 8/29/24 -- I watered the patio plants, picnic table, and septic garden. Something has devoured the almost-ripe cherry tomatoes, leaving only a few shreds of skin. I am annoyed. >_< Then again, I saw an oriole today. They are frugivorous and attracted to orange things. That seems a likely explanation.
EDIT 8/29/24 -- I watered the seedlings in the savanna.
The first of the sunchokes are blooming. :D
EDIT 8/29/24 -- I watered the telephone pole garden and grass patch.
Cicadas and crickets are singing. I've seen a few fireflies.
As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
