BALD EAGLES!

Today we went up to visit my father. Weather is cold and partly sunny.

On the way up, we saw a bald eagle! :D 3q3q3q!!! This was pretty far from home, so likely not the pair I saw recently over my yard. This is the first time I've seen eagles twice in a week outside of places like the Mississippi River. I am so happy that they're moving back into central Illinois.

We also saw many flocks of geese flying about. They're mostly moving north at this time.

I saw a few deer beside the road too.

I've been gradually seeing more bald eagles in central Illinois for some years, but several so close together is really exciting. :D

That's very exciting! We've started seeing more in Colorado over the last few years as well. I'm still excited every time I see one, but I can basically count on seeing at least a few each year, when it was much rarer when I was a kid.

Yay! I'm glad the Colorado population is growing too.

When I was little, I think the only time we saw bald eagles was right on the Mississippi River while traveling, and not often even then. Or farther west, a few times. It's been in the last, hmm, 5-10 years that I've seen them around here, slowly increasing over time.

Me too! When I was younger we had a couple places that reliably had nesting pairs, but fairly few, and those spots were quite a ways to get to. Now we see them a few times a year at least, including in the city we live in, which is always exciting! I'm relieved the population has rebounded so well.

I am very hopeful that the pair I saw will nest somewhere.
