Today is partly cloudy and cold.

I fed the birds. I've seen a flock of sparrows, a female and a male downy woodpecker.

Birdfeeders come in diverse styles to offer different types of food and thus attract more birds. You can buy a fancy feeder if you want to, but you can also make your own. Some of these require tools and skills, but others are simple and cost nothing.

Hi, I'm Jen! I'm super thrilled that I found this group because I literally just got a camera bird feeder for Christmas from my spouse! I've seen male and female Cardinals, Mockingbird, Dark Eyed Junco, Tufted Titmouse, Blue Jay, Streaky Seedeater, Red Bellied Woodpecker, and White Breasted Nuthatch. Also like 5 deer eating at the bottom of my feeder. And for awhile squirrels took over, but I put a cone underneath the bird feeder and haven't seen them since. It's been great fun!

Your approximate location: New Jersey, USA

What are your interests in birds? LOVE birds. I used to own finches, parakeets, a ringneck dove, lovebirds. I don't have any birds currently because I have a cat and will have a dog, but my new bird feeder is kind how I can get my bird love in now!

How big is your yard / balcony / etc. if any? Pretty big for suburbia. I have about half an acre behind my house, and a small woods inbetween back neighbors and I. Deer often mosey into my backyard.

What is your general habitat / climate zone? 4 Seasons.

What do you do to attract birds, if anything? Nothing. I just set up the bird feeder last week. They seem to have found it!

What are some birds you often see in your area? The birds mentioned above, but a lot of cardinals!!

What is your blog like? Mostly about my life, photos.

How active is it? Very. I've been on LJ/DW since 2001 and have posted regularly since.

What are your most common topics? Kids, spouse, cat. But most notably I'm getting a German Shepherd puppy in March. Woohoo.

What kinds of friends would you like to attract? People who ramble about their lives, and who post regularly.
