So, I thought "I should use the plastic picnic plates to feed the birds, since I can swap that out and clean it more frequently than this plant pot saucer I've been using."

Birds weren't touching the plate. Put some food on the plant saucer next to it, thinking they didn't get that it was the same thing. They're eating all of the food off the plant saucer and leaving food on the plate. For multiple days now.

I guess they don't care for the picnic plate!

For a while, I tried hanging feeder/waterer things that had plastic trays in them. Birds wouldn't touch either.

Ironically, they'll drink out of a plastic dog dish, which they aren't supposed to like. They haven't cared for the pedestal birdbath offerings at all.

It may be the type of plastic. I've found if it's super smooth, they won't be inclined to use it. Whereas if there's a bit of grittiness to it, they get a good grip and are more inclined to use it.

If you have any sandpaper, maybe try scuffing up the plastic a bit , give them something to grip?
