Today is sunny and warm.
I haven't fed the birds yet. I've seen a flock of house finches, a male rose-breasted grosbeak, and a fox squirrel. In the ritual meadow, I heard crows cawing and saw a large bird flapping around, but couldn't identify it.
I walked around the yard taking pictures.
EDIT 5/1/24 -- I've seen two male rose-breasted grosbeaks, a mourning dove, a house wren, and Nipple Squirrel.
EDIT 5/1/24 -- I fed the birds. Feeders are busy today. :D
There's a deep pink dianthus blooming in a pot from last year, and I think one of the 'Dusty Miller' artemesias in the septic garden is leafing out. Irises have buds.
I trimmed grass around two spots in the west hedge of the savanna where I'll plant red osier dogwoods.
EDIT 5/1/24 -- I dug the first hole.
EDIT 5/1/24 -- I planted the first red osier dogwood, covered and labeled it, then mulched around it.
I've been hearing woodpeckers, but haven't seen any.
EDIT 5/1/24 -- I trimmed more grass.
EDIT 5/1/24 -- I planted the second red osier dogwood.
EDIT 5/1/24 -- I watered the red osier dogwoods.
I trimmed a place to plant the pagoda dogwood.
EDIT 5/1/24 -- An 'Old-Fashioned' petunia arrived from Spring Hill Nursery, so I had to stop and plant that in the barrel garden. This is the kind my grandmother called Yesterday-Today-and-Tomorrow because the flowers bloom white, then turn pink, and finally purple.
I also had to re-trim around the goddess garden for later mowing, because you couldn't see where I did that earlier.
EDIT 5/1/24 -- I got the pagoda dogwood planted, covered and labeled, then mulched. \o/
EDIT 5/1/24 -- I watered the pagoda dogwood.
I found a single perfect deer track in the mud at the end of the driveway where it joins the road, then traced it forward and back across most of the driveway. This would have been easier if I'd found it in full daylight, but I managed. The deer was walking along the edge of the road. :D
As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
