Birdfeeding
Apr. 8th, 2024 05:28 pmToday is sunny and mild, a beautiful spring day.
I fed the birds. I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches, plus a fox squirrel.
The contents of the fly-through feeder have been nibbled somewhat but not cleaned out.
I started cleaning up the strip garden, trying to get the dead leaves off without tearing up the now-rather-large herbs growing there. In so doing, I discovered that the orange mint -- normally a tender perennial that doesn't overwinter here -- has spread over a goodly part of the strip garden. The sage is leafing out. The lemon balm is well up. The bergamot is calf-high and rapidly heading for knee-high.
EDIT 4/8/24 -- I did more clearing of the strip garden and got the dead stems out of the bergamot plant.
EDIT 4/8/24 -- I sprayed weeds on the patio and around the south side of the house.
I spotted a yellow violet blooming in the forest garden! :D It's been there for a few years but is largely indistinguishable from the purple ones unless in bloom. The leaves are maybe a little narrower and pointier but I'm never sure without the flowers. Possibly Common Yellow Violet. Solomon's seal is also sprouting. I saw mayapples in the woods today, but mine haven't sprouted.
As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
