Photos: Savanna and Prairie Garden

I took pictures around the yard today (Sunday 24). These are from the savanna and prairie garden.


The wagonwheel garden has several things blooming.




This crocus has purple and white stripes.




The telephone pole garden has a bunch of stuff sprouting.




Bergamot and poppy are sprouting in the telephone pole garden. The bergamot is the mat of purplish leaves.




The round leaves are black hollyhocks.




Asiatic lilies are sprouting around the telephone pole.




Daffodils are blooming along the savanna hedge. All of these are freebies that I dug out of the overcrowded daffodil bed.




The Dolgo crabapple is leafing out. I love its little red leaves.




The redbud trees are showing pink flower buds. They aren't open yet, though.




The wildflower garden is blooming.




Squill is blooming in the wildflower garden.




The prairie garden has daffodils blooming all over.




These have a mix of yellow and white flowers.




Purple violets are blooming at the north edge of the prairie garden.

I've been planting daffodils there for years. The plain yellow trumpets and ice follies are the most inclined to naturalize and spread. The slightly fancier ones intended for naturalizing last several years but eventually fade away. The really fancy ones that I buy in small bags usually go in a flowerbed, but again, only last a few years.

Some of the daffodils here are from plantings older than me. We have yellow trumpets and ice follies at Dad's house that are well over 30 years old.
