Today is partly cloudy, windy, and chilly.  It's been spitting rain a few times but never enough for even a drizzle.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a flock of sparrows and a pair of house finches.

While drive up to visit Dad, I saw an eagle nest.  It wasn't occupied, but they're pretty distinctive -- a massive pile of branches high up in a tree, further corroborated by its location next to a creek.  A bald eagle nest typically starts out around 5-6 feet wide and can get twice as big over time.  So, they're at least trying to reproduce.  This is the first nest I've seen, though.  :D

That's wonderful to hear about the eagle nest! Have you ever seen the Eagle cams? Those are fun to watch.

The Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge near Zimmerman, Minnesota has a constructed eagle nest on a platform at ground level. Eagles didn't make it, but it uses the same principles and materials, so you can see how enormous the nests are and how they're put together. It is pretty impressive! There are also actual eagle nests in the refuge, but while you can pull your car off the road and look at them from afar, you're asked not to get out of the car.

A visit of a few hours generally produces a number of bald eagle sightings along with the numerous other birds that breed there.
