I was only going to do my one dish, but put a suet cage and a couple woodpecker blocks on today's grocery delivery.  Considering where to put it - part of me thinks hanging it off the porch would be safer from other animals, but hanging it on the fence to the dog's area is more visible to the birds. Also I don't really want them hanging out under the porch for mess.

Two additional doves in the yard this morning! Despite the fact that the feed is cheap and has a lot of corn, that corn is getting eaten now.

I also have a "new" bird found by my Merlin app, the white-breasted nuthatch.  I was able to pick it out after the app popped up the name, it was sort of hanging on the side of a tree.

I like white-breasted nuthatches; they sound kind of muppet-y.

Nuthatches are fun. Those Mourning Doves are the scouts. Soon you too will have a Mourning Dove Army...

Yay!

Go you!

Yeah, birds make a mess under a feeder. Is there anywhere you'd like fertilizer? You could get a feeder pole and put it there. If you have a tree or even a bush, that's a good place for a suet cage.

Yeah, they love corn. A lot of medium and larger birds do. I had to quit buying cheap seed because I could no longer find any without corn, and the cracked corn clogs my feeders. >_< So now it's songbird blend that is mostly sunflower seeds.

>>They've already started snacking on the suet. Not sure who, I haven't caught them on it yet.<<

Wow, that was fast. Mine usually take a week or two to discover new food.

>> I will probably put things over by the lilac bush next winter.<<

That sounds promising.
