Photos: House Yard and West Savanna
Feb. 21st, 2024 08:00 pmI took more photos in my yard today. These are from the house yard and the western end of the savanna.
This is a wide view of the barrel garden in the yard by the house, looking east.

Tulips are sprouting around the barrel garden.

This is a wide view of the goddess garden with crocuses (lavender) and winter aconite (yellow) blooming.

A honeybee is feeding on winter aconite flowers.

This honeybee is visiting a cluster of lavender crocus flowers. She is almost in the middle of the photo, down low on the middle flower.

This is a wide view of the white garden at the west end of the driveway. The big green spiky thing is a cluster of yucca plants. Snowdrops are blooming to the left.

Snowdrops are blooming in the white garden. This is one of the places where I have actually planted them but they have wandered wider than that. I think I started with 10 or so right next to the boulder and now there are dozens sprinkled over several square feet.

The Colorado blue spruce is growing in the Midwinter Grove.

The hazelnut bush is in the savanna between the wildflower garden and the road.

Hazel catkins are just beginning to open. They will get longer and thicker. When fully developed, tapping them sheds a cloud of golden pollen.

The wildflower garden is just a bunch of brown stems right now. I need to get in there and cut those down before the bulbs come up.
