Birdfeeding
Jan. 13th, 2024 04:13 pmToday is cloudy, frigid, and spitting snow. Yesterday had howling wind, rain, and snow that was more interested in flying sideways than settling. It got down to 18°F with winds of 28 mph, just that I saw; currently it's 20°F and predicted to plummet into single digits. O_O Now there is a fine dusting of dry sandy snow like powdered sugar over the tops of everything.
I fed the birds. They had emptied the fly-through feeder as usual and about half the hopper feeder. I've seen a flock of sparrows, a pair of cardinals, and a dark-eyed junco.
I hadn't put out suet because the weather was so mild, and now I don't have any. Drat.
EDIT 1/13/24 -- It is now -1°F with a wind chill of -19°F.
EDIT 1/13/24 -- It is now -4°F with a wind chill of -25°F. And our woodstove is out of commission. Fuck this so very much.
