Birdfeeding
Dec. 28th, 2023 06:23 pmIt has been alternating rain and snow all day. For a while it was flurrying briskly, but not sticking, which raised the question of whether that qualifies as First Snow. (The standard is that it is has to stick more than a few flakes, but usually when it's that questionable, there aren't many flakes to begin with.) Before the question was resolved, the snow started sticking to tall grass and plowed fields, so it's officially First Snow. But damn, it barely squeaked under the wire to happen in December. We almost made it to January with no snow. 0_o
I did not feed the birds as the feeders are still visibly full, and we spent the light hours out shopping. I only saw a few sparrows flitting around looking miserable. Most birds were sensibly holed up somewhere out of the wet weather.
