Birdfeeding

Today is sunny and mild, a beautiful winter day.

I fed the birds. I've seen a flock of sparrows at the hopper feeder.

I cut brush at the south end of the daffodil bed.

It rained most of the day yesterday here, so I took the opportunity to scrub the bird water dish well.

Dark, windy, and damp today but I see and hear various ones around, including a couple northern flickers.

I've had those and red-bellied woodpeckers. We used to have redheaded woodpeckers but I haven't seen any in years. We still have downies, though I haven't seen them recently. Dad's place has pileated woodpeckers.

In my area, there's a lot of randomness about what lands where in which season. I have some regulars, and then a lot of randomly-generated birds. :D

I love the little downies. I'll put out suet soon for the winter and they will be obvious again.

Yeah, I wait until I see the downies at the feeders. They'll come for sunflower seeds or corn kernels. Then I put out the suet. I have an upside-down cage that is easy for clinging birds to eat from, but difficult or impossible for perching birds. I figure the few sparrows who learn to eat from it have earned the meal.
