Bald Eagle

We went up to visit Dad today.

On the way up, I spotted a bald eagle sitting in a field of winter wheat, dark brown body and white head a vivid contrast against the short field of bright green. :D They really are spreading around here, I've seen several this year.

I'm always so very pleased to see a bald eagle. It's no longer an infrequent sight, but always an amazing one. P.

When I was younger, the only places I had seen them outside of zoos were along the Mississippi or out west. But now I see them occasionally around here, so that's exciting.

I went for most of my life only seeing bald eagles in the zoo, and then suddenly, in the last seven or eight years, they're everywhere!

Similar here, although I had also seen them out west a time or two, and along the Mississippi. But now they are an occasional sight in central Illinois, just randomly flying or lounging around. It's awesome. :D

I've even spotted them in or above my own yard a few times. Mostly they're using it as a rest stop, but this spring a pair decided it was a romantic carpet above which to stage a courting flight. I was so flattered.
