Today is sunny and hot.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a small flock of house finches and a male cardinal.

The first Hopi landrace sunflower is blooming!  :D  This thing is huge.  So far the flower is only the size of a salad plate, but the stalk is around 7-8 feet tall (even with a curve) and nearly as thick as my wrist at the base.

EDIT 8/4/23 -- I watered the septic garden and plants in the yard by the house.

EDIT 8/4/23 -- I watered the telephone pole garden, wildflower garden, and notch in the prairie garden.

Cicadas are singing.

EDIT 8/4/23 -- I watered the oak seedlings, tulip bed and its grass patch.

Crickets are singing.  Fireflies are out.  Bats are hunting.

As it is now dark, I am done for the night.

I've enjoyed my Short Stuff sunflowers so much. I am thinking of Hopi landrace sunflowers all along the south side next year, so good to know what to expect!

3 feet or so between them at that size?
