Birdfeeding

Today is cloudy and mild.  I'm hearing faint rumbles of thunder.  Doug says it's been raining and even hailing farther north.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a sparrow and a fox squirrel.

I finished trimming brush and weeds around the walnut tree in the yard by the house.

I saw a tiger swallowtail butterfly!  :D 3q3q3q!!!  The adults feed on many flowers, and the caterpillars eat the leaves of cherry and other trees.

One late Asiatic lily is blooming pure yellow by the telephone pole.

EDIT 7/17/23 -- It's drizzling just a bit, but not enough to stop me from going out.

I picked a handful of blackberries in the prairie garden.
 
I found an owl pellet in the savanna; looks like mouse remains with gray fur and tiny bones.

EDIT 7/17/23 -- I watered the septic garden and plants in the yard by the house.

EDIT 7/17/23 -- I watered the telephone pole garden, wildflower garden, tulip bed and its grass patch.

EDIT 7/17/23 -- I watered the oak seedlings and the notch in the prairie garden.

EDIT 7/17/23 -- I trimmed brush in the savanna.

Fireflies are coming out and crickets are singing.  I hear thunder in the distance and there's a big cloud to the west, but no telling if we'll get any real rain.

As it is now dark, I am done for the night.

Yay tiger swallowtails. :) Those are in this area too.

Emrys saw a cabbage white the other day, too - it's been a while since anyone's seen them. We haven't been in the areas they really like.

Cabbage white, cabbage yellow, and various related species that look the same as those to me are quite common around here. We also have eastern tailed blues, painted ladies, red admirals, monarchs, commas, question marks, black swallowtails, and a lot of skippers. :D I have wild violets, goldenrods, some prairie grasses, and other host plants not all of which are really common around here.
