I woke up to begin filling the bird feeders and had a surprise - a new turkey mother with 7 chicks hiding in the taller weeds close behind.
She took some seed and called the little ones over as well.   We have a stone/dirt driveway where we toss seed on the ground, plus several other feeders nearby on the front porch and edges of the woods.

Oh, that's so great. I've assisted a little in the upbringing of many generations of songbirds of various kinds, but though we've had turkey flocks passing along our block, they liked the remains of native grass boulevard gardens and didn't check out backyards.

Wow!

It's so awesome to see the wild turkeys reproducing!

Amusing vocabulary: baby turkeys are called poults, which is also approximately the sound they make. It's deeper than the peeping of chicken chicks or ducklings.
