These are the three pictures I selected as most memorable (not the most aesthetically beautiful or technically ept) from 2024 for
threeforthememories.
Eclipse Pictures
Apr. 8th, 2024 11:44 pm
We drove down to Greenup to view the eclipse, and I took pictures of how the sun makes crescents instead of discs with the pinhole effect through tree leaves. This is a long view of the sidewalk when the crescents are hair-thin.

Photos: Cicadas
May. 14th, 2024 11:32 pm
The 17-year periodical cicadas emerged en masse. Many cicadas emerged around the forest garden. This isn't even the best picture I got of them -- I have masses of them shedding their skins and hanging in the dark like strange angels. But I didn't have time to upload those, so this is what I have online for now.

Photos: New Shed
Nov. 6th, 2024 11:38 pm
We bought a new garden shed and installed it in the south lot. This is a closer view of the shed from the house yard, not far from the border between house yard and south lot. It looks nice and homesteady. :D

These are the other pictures I considered before whittling it down to the above three. I really wanted to include the hollies from the Midwinter Grove.
Yard Pictures: Snow in Midwinter Grove
Jan. 22nd, 2024 12:30 am
We only got one good snow in the winter when the weather was conducive to photography. The Midwinter Grove lies just north of the driveway. It includes a bunch of yew bushes, a pine tree, several spruces, and a new Colorado blue spruce. This is one of the major shelters for birds and other wildlife. They love hiding in all those evergreens.

Photos: Spiders and Vulture
Apr. 14th, 2024 11:50 pm
A vulture perched in a tree, then launched into the sky. After several variously bad shots through the branches, the vulture soared through a clear spot and I got one good picture. \o/ You can see his little, bald, red head quite clearly.

I posted many pictures of flowers blooming. Here is a closeup of an open iris.

Photos: Charleston Food Forest Part 1 Right Front
Nov. 11th, 2024 11:58 pm
We discovered the Charleston Food Forest, of which I shared many pictures and later went back to harvest seeds and roots. The entrance to the Charleston Food Forest has a big sign.

Photos: Hollies Planted
Dec. 21st, 2024 09:44 pm
For our Yule ritual, we planted a 'Royal Family' male and female holly (in the same pot) in the Midwinter Grove. The holly berries shine bright red in the sun.
