Pinetree Garden Seeds Order
Here is my order for Pinetree Garden Seeds. We discovered that the catalog numbers are incomplete in paper, so look them up online and cross-reference with cultivar names. :/ This is the first of three paper catalogs.
Aunt Molly's Ground Cherry (40 seeds) $2.50
Butterfly Weed (40 seeds) $2.35
'Hello Yellow' Milkweed (40 seeds) $4.95
Cactus Mix (20 seeds) $1.75
Hollyhock 'Antwerp' (35 seeds) $1.95
Marigold 'Crackerjack' (25 seeds) $2.35
Sedum Mixture (100 seeds) $1.95
Sunflower Mix (100 seeds) $2.95
Ramps (10 bareroot bulbs) $24.50
American Witch Hazel (1 plant) $13.95
The natives include butterfly weed, ramps, and witch hazel.
Note that ramps are edible wild alliums. The whole thing is edible. They spread slowly from roots. If you pull up the whole plant, it won't come back. However, there's a trick. Ramps typically have two broad leaves. You can snip off one leaf per plant, once per season, and it will regrow. Don't pull up the bulbs until after they start multiplying. With a bag of 10, I can try planting them in multiple places to see where they grow better.
The mixed sunflowers will contribute to my developing landrace of sunflowers designed to produce lots of nectar, pollen, and seeds for wildlife. I avoid the pollenless "florist" cultivars which is sadly the vast majority nowadays. :/ I'm aiming for diverse colors and shapes, medium to tall height, branching or single heads, and medium to large heads. Smaller heads are culled for use as birdseed. Larger heads are replanted in hopes they'll volunteer, although I didn't separate and save seed indoors last fall. I have better equipment now so I can do that this coming fall.
