I've been planting daffodils there for years. The plain yellow trumpets and ice follies are the most inclined to naturalize and spread. The slightly fancier ones intended for naturalizing last several years but eventually fade away. The really fancy ones that I buy in small bags usually go in a flowerbed, but again, only last a few years.
